This is a visa that’s non-immigrant permit that permits US firms to employ foreign workers for special jobs that require technical or theoretical knowledge. Technology companies rely on it to employ hundreds of thousands of workers every year from countries such as India or China.

“We are close to granting more than one million visas during the year. This is an all-time record for us, as is the record amount of immigrant visas and student visas” Lu said. Lu stated that the US is determined this summer to ensure that it process all Visas of students for Indians who start their school in September.

There has been a growing concern in India about the lengthy waiting time for visa applicants who are first-time particularly for those who apply under the B1 (business) as well as B2 (tourist) categories.

India is currently ranked second in the world when it comes to of international students who come into the United States.

“We have been prioritising the work visas H-1B’s as well as L visas. The wait times at some consular sections of ours in India for these visas, are currently less than 60 days. We will ensure that we prioritize visas for employees, since it is crucial in both American and Indian business,” Lu said.

“For certain petition-based, non-immigrant workers in visa types, we’re planning to reopen the domestic visa renewal process for applicants who satisfy certain criteria, such as having physical presence within the United States. We’re hoping to have the pilot in operation by the end of this year. This will eliminate the requirement for applicants to travel to another country for renewal of their visas” he added.

In response to a question about the Indian IT professionals in H-1B visas and who have been fired, Lu noted that the Department of Homeland Security recently issued a set of new guidelines specifically on what they should do if they want to change their status. “India-US relationship enjoys bipartisan support in the US,” Lu stated.

“I think a significant part of the solution you be found in a very significant diaspora community located in the US. For at least 30 years our relationship has been partly fueled through Indian Americans who have lived for many years in America, but have maintained a close relationship between the United States and India,” he said. Over a million passengers travel back and forth between India and the United States.

“That’s an impressive number considering that we’re far from each other to one another. It’s expensive for a flight between the two cities. However, those ties of those who came to the United States, or perhaps their parents came from India and those ties stay. They aren’t shattered through immigration.” the man said.

“In fact we know now that more than 1,00,000 Americans live in India too. This is a significant relationship to be considered and will benefit everyone. Yeah. This is applicable to political parties, just as well as family members within the US. Growing up, I had lots of Indian American friends. I’m sure that’s part of the culture of United States,” Lu added.
